Three Blind Mice

Front Cover of the "Three Blind Mice"

Three Blind Mice by John W. Ivimey and illustrated by Paul Galdone is a traditional literature book that has been adapted and passed through many generations. This is a nursery rhyme that could be read to ages 1-6 and even further because it is such a classic story and nursery rhyme.

Three Blind Mice is about three mice who go on a journey that stars off with them just wishing to have some fun. So they left with a comb as their luggage and tried to find a nice place to stay. So they ended up finding a field to sleep in instead. This ended up with the three mice cold and swollen so they decided to leave and find somewhere else. They were in the search of food because they were starving so they headed to a farm. This is where they met the farmer who was kind enough to give them food and they were happy as could be! Butt that's when the farmer's wife came in and she chases the card mice away. As they were running out of the ledge their eyes were scratched up in the eyes by the bramble hedge. They could not find their way back home because they couldn't see anything but they continued running away as fast as they could. Before they made it away from the farmer's wife though she cut off their tails with a carving knife. The story ends in a happy note however when the Three Blind Mice found a friend who gave them a "Never Too Late To Mend" medicine that helped the mice grow their tails and helped their sight return. After that they built a house for themselves and lived happily ever after!

Happily Ever After for the Three Blind Mice

I would use this book in my classroom especially since I want to teach kindergarteners. I'm not sure if there is a message to the story so I'd probably just read it on a half day and do some type of activity that goes with the story. I think the appropriate grade level for this book would be Pre-K and Kindergarten and possibly 1st grade. But like I was saying this book would be good on a half day with a cute activity that involves drawing what they imagine their perfect little house would look like. So it would relate to the happy ending the mice had in their little house.
