Teacher Evaluation: 

As a teacher, I would read this book to kindergarteners and maybe first graders for a read aloud when we're learning about poetry. I think the poems are easy beginner examples of poems. Which I think will be a nice and helpful way of introducing poetry and poems to younger kids. I also think since it has illustrations that go with each poem it'll help with keeping the children's attention. 

Summary: 

In this short book of collections of bedtime poems it begins with the first poem called "A Visitor" by Bedtime Bear. It is about a visitor, Bedtime Bear coming to visit you when it's time to go to bed. After dinner is over and all your toys have been put away and you're wearing your pajamas, it's time to say goodnight and go to sleep Bedtime bear comes to visit and say goodnight. There's a bunch of little poems in this book but a second one is called "Naming Sheep" by Michael Patrick Hearn that's about naming all the sheep to go to sleep. The poem starts off with the lights going off and the character in the poem not being able to sleep, so they start naming sheep. Which leads to them finally going to sleep. Then the book ends with a poem about waking up and feeling the sun-fingers on her cheek and trying to stay asleep.

Title: Radiant Child  Genre: Biography  Author: Javaka Steptoe Awards: Caldecott Medal  Age Group: 4 to 8 year olds Teacher Evaluation: As a teacher, I think this book would be a good book to read if you're doing a biography on Jean-Michel because it gives the reader a nice biography over his journey to becoming a famous artist. It also shows a different type of picture/illustration style while showing us Jean-Michel''s art style.  Summary: In this book we learn about Jean-Michel and how he started off as a little boy with a dream to become a big artist. We learn that his art inspiration comes from his mother, Matilde, a Puerto Rican woman and how she draws with him. She is the one who taught him that art isn't just the normal things we think about like books, museums, theaters but it's also in the games children play or the words they speak. It was such an interesting and emotional book to read. I think if my students were to read it, it would open their eyes to how people that may look different feel when people give them looks or whisper about them like Auggie did in the book. It would be a good lesson for kids to learn, that their actions matter and that they must know that they may not realize it at first but their actions and words could hurt someone.  Summary: In this book the author introduces us to Auggie a 10 year old boy who was born with a facial difference that once he enters middle school is bullied for by some of his classmates.
