Teacher Evaluation:

As a teacher, I would love to read this book to students in grades 4-8. i think this novel would be a good book to read when we are learning about the World Wars, since this book is set in the time when Hitler was going to invade Germany. This book would help the students understand and connect the events of the book and what really happened because it's happening to and is written about a girl around their age.

Summary:

In this book it follows Ada and her brother Jamie as they escape London because there is word that Hitler is going to bomb them. This book is set during the time of World War 2 and is written through the eyes of Ada a disabled girl who is eager to escape her abusive and neglectful mother in London. She finally sees her chance to escape when the threat of German bombs dropping on London happens and parents are trying to get their kids out of the city and too safety. Once Ada and Jamie escape they go to stay with a woman named Susan Smith. Susan didn't want to take the two kids in but is forced to by Lady Thorton. She later on starts to love the kids as her own and start to get better after losing her best friend Becky. They never hear word from their Mam about going back to London so they stay with Miss Smith. Until she does come back to take them back to London. Then after Ada tells Mam how they can disappear and never come back because she never really wanted them. They get bombed and they have to rush to find shelter. The book ends with Susan, Ada, and Jamie finding each other because Susan had gone to look for them and they head back home only to find out that the house has been bombed and destroyed. Everyone thought they had died in the house so they were all relieved when they saw the three walking over. This story teaches us about never giving up on hope because while Ada and Jamie had a tough life, they never gave up hope for a better life. Which is shown by their determination to get back to Susan.
