Teacher Evaluation:

As a teacher, I think this a really nice educational book to read when we are learning about holidays. It is short and to the point with pictures about how Juneteenth is celebrated and the symbols associated with the holiday. It also has a glossary at the end of the book that defines the terms used throughout the book.

Summary:

This book talks about the holiday "Juneteenth" what it is, how it is celebrated, why it is celebrated, the symbols associated with it, and how Juneteenth came to be. It tells us that this holiday is celebrated on June 19 and it's an African-American holiday which celebrates that on that day in 1865 slaves in Texas learned they were free. It explains all the ways it is celebrated by  going to church and giving thanks and how theres also a parade. People play music, dance, sing, and have a cookout where they have bbq. We also learn that there is a special Juneteenth flag with a Texas star in the middle of it.
