As a teacher, I don't know I would read this book for my class. It has a good message about to unlikely friends wanting to escape somewhere for different reasons and an unlikely friendship comes out of it.

Summary:

This book is about a prince and a whipping boy who escape from the castle for different reasons and eventually become friends. The prince was a mischievous boy who is known as Prince Brat but not to his face. Then there's the whipping boy Jemmy who is an orphan that became Prince Brats whipping boy which meant he was punished for every bad thing the Prince did. Jemmy does everything that the Prince doesn't want to do so instead of the prince learning how to read and write Jeremy the whipping boy does. So when they are taken by Hold-your-nose Billy and Cutwater after escaping from the castle Jemmy is the one that has to write the ransom note instead of the prince. Jemmy formulates a plan after the two kidnappers think that the two boys have switched places because Jemmy can write by the Prince can't, so Jemmy goes a long with it but sadly the Prince Brat sabotages the plan by refusing to go back to the palace to give the ransom note to the king as the "whipping boy." So instead Jemmy suggests the send the horse instead. Jemmy comes up with a plan to run away after hold-your-nose Billy leaves and the two boys are left with Cutwater Jemmy goes to hide behind the straw and tells the Prince to tell Cutwater that he slipped out the door. the Prince gives Jemmy's hiding spot away and betrays him so as soon as Cutwater comes close Jemmy runs out while the prince followed. After this they are running through the woods and somehow end upp helping a carriage that has been taken by the same two men that kidnapped them. That is when they end up whipping the prince because they think that he's Jemmy's whipping boy. Then the story ends with the two boys returning to the castle where Jemmy and the Prince credited Jemmy for his safe return. This gives Jemmy protection to where he isn't the Prince's whipping boy anymore and the two boys are good friends now.
