A Bad Case of Stripes
Title: A Bad Case of Stripes
Genre: Realistic Fiction
Author: David Shannon

Age Group: 5 to 9 year olds
Teacher Evaluation:
As a teacher, I think this book would be a cute book to read because it teaches such a good lesson about being true to yourself and try not to care too much about other people's opinions. Which is such a good lesson especially because kids most of the time are just trying to find their place and usually adapt to the what the people around them are like. Which is why this would be good book to read aloud because it to shows that everyone should be themselves no matter what.
Summary:
In this book we meet Camilla Cream a girl who loved lima beans but since all her friends hated them she never really ate them. When she was trying to find something to wear to impress all the student son the first day of school she realized she was completely covered in stripes. Her mom decided to keep her home but Camille was relieved since she didn't want her first impression on the first day to be her covered in stripes. When she went to the doctors to see if anything was wrong the doctor couldn't find anything so Camille went to the school the next day. As the day progressed kids made fun of her and she changed to so many different patterns on her skin. She had to stay at home till this all went away because she was too much of a distraction for the kids. The next morning after being checked by various doctors she looked in the mirror and was a giant pill and that's when news broke about Camille and her bizarre case. Nothing was working and her condition kept getting worse until this random old lady came and gave her plain lima beans, what Camille had been craving, once she finally admitted to the lady she actually did like lima beans and she ate them she turned back to her normal self. The book ends with Camille realizing she will never go back to trying to be like everyone else and pretend she hates lima beans but instead just be herself and enjoy her lima beans and never get the stripes again.
