Alexander, who's not (Do you hear me? I mean it!) Going to move

Title: Alexander, who's not (Do you hear me? I mean it!) Going to move

Genre: Realistic Fiction

Author: Judith Viorst

Awards: N/A

Age Group: 5 to 8 year olds

Teacher Evaluation:

As a teacher, I think this book would be a good book to read to a class if they are going through a hard time adjusting to something new and hard. It could be a good book to read on the first day to show the kids that sometimes change is good and that no matter how much things change the people that care for you will still be there.

Summary:

In this book we meet Alexander who is angry at the moment because he doesn't want to move away because that means he has to leave his best friend Paul, his favorite sitter Rachel, his soccer team. He really doesn't want to move a thousand miles away from everyone and everything he knows. He just keeps thinking of all of the people he could possibly stay with instead of moving like all his neighbors. He starts reminiscing and visiting all the places he's going to miss when he moves and still stands on his choice of not wanting to move. But he eventually has to start saying good-bye to everyone he's going to miss when he moves. Everyone is telling him that he'll be fine and telling him that this and that will happen when you move places. In the end he accepts that he is moving and decides they better not try and move again.
